How to use PipSpeech

Everything you need for your first session, at the table or over video. Most SLPs are up and running in about a minute.

Quick start

  1. Open the app at pipspeech.pages.dev/app. No account or download needed.
  2. Who’s at the table? Type a nickname (no real names needed), then pick Speech sound, Language or My deck. For speech, choose the sound, the word positions and the level (word, phrase or sentence).
  3. Add more students with New student (up to four). Turns rotate automatically, and each child keeps their own targets.
  4. Pick a game and press Start.
  5. After each try, score it. The child then gets a quick, fun reaction, and the next picture appears.
  6. Press Finish for a celebration and a session summary with a ready-to-paste note.

Scoring during a session

The scoring panel sits in the bottom corner of the game screen.

Keyboard shortcuts (laptop or Bluetooth keyboard): 1 correct, 2 close, 3 try again, → skip, Z undo, H hide or show the panel.

📱 Phone remote (in person)

Score privately from your phone while the child plays on an iPad, laptop or classroom board.

  1. Start a game on the big screen.
  2. Tap 📱 Connect (top left), and keep the Phone remote tab selected.
  3. Point your phone’s camera at the QR code and open the link. Or type the link shown under the room code.
  4. When it says ✓ Phone connected, close the box. Your phone now shows the target word and the scoring buttons, Undo, Skip and cue level.

💡 The phone and the big screen don’t need to be on the same Wi-Fi. Any internet connection works. If school Wi-Fi drops for a moment, both reconnect on their own.

💻 Teletherapy

The child sees the real game on their own screen, crisp and smooth, instead of a blurry screen share. You stay on your usual video call.

  1. Start your video call as usual (Zoom, Google Meet, Teams or your therapy platform).
  2. In PipSpeech, start a game, tap 📱 Connect, and choose the 💻 Teletherapy tab.
  3. Press Copy link and paste it into the video call chat (or send it to the parent).
  4. The child opens the link in a browser on any computer or tablet and taps Tap to start. You’ll see ✓ Child screen connected.
  5. You score from your screen. The child plays their part on theirs: feeding the dragon, popping bubbles, opening gifts and tapping answers to language questions. Both screens stay in sync.

💡 Keep PipSpeech in its own browser window, and share only your face on video. The child doesn’t need an account or an app. Each session gets a new private room code that expires when you finish.

💡 You can use both together: run teletherapy from your laptop and score from your phone.

Groups

Language targets

Choose Language for a student, then pick one or more skills: verb tenses, plurals, pronouns, possessives, prepositions, negatives, wh-questions and more. Each item shows a picture and a sentence with three choices. The child taps an answer, and it’s scored automatically. The first answer counts: if they get it on a second try, it’s recorded as incorrect so your data stays honest. Tap the 🔈 button to read the question aloud.

Receptive skills (identify objects, actions, prepositions and describing words) work the same way, but the answers are pictures only, so reading never gives the answer away. Read the prompt aloud, or tap 🔈, and the child points to or taps the matching picture, for example “Find the cat under the chair” or “Which dog is big?”.

Your own decks

Open My decks to build practice sets from your own photos (snap real objects in your room), your own voice recordings, or pictures from the built-in library. Then choose My deck for a student on the home screen. Decks are great for vocabulary, carryover and a child’s favorite things.

Goals, progress & reports

  1. Open Students (top of the home screen) to see your caseload.
  2. Press 🎯 Set a goal and choose the accuracy and number of sessions in a row, for example 80% across 3 sessions. The chart shows the goal line and says when it’s met.
  3. Press 📄 Report for a clean, printable progress report: accuracy over time, accuracy by position or skill, a session log and your comments. Use Print / Save as PDF for IEP meetings.
  4. Export trials (CSV) gives you every scored try for your own records.

🔒 Students and sessions are stored only on the device you use, by nickname. Use the same device and browser to keep a student’s history together.

Troubleshooting

The phone or child screen says “Waiting…” and won’t connect

Check that both devices are online and that the link has the same room code as the Connect box. If the session ended, start a new one and use the new code. School networks sometimes block live connections: try the phone on mobile data instead of Wi-Fi.

There’s no sound

Browsers only allow sound after the first tap, so tap the screen once. Check the device isn’t on silent, and that Music and Sound effects are on in ⚙︎ Settings.

My students or decks disappeared

They live in the browser on the device you used. A different device, a private window, or clearing browser data won’t show them. Use the same device and browser, and export a CSV now and then.

The child keeps tapping instead of talking

Open ⚙︎ Settings and set Mystery surprises to Correct only or Off. You can also press Hide so the scoring panel stays out of view.
